Methane decomposition
Methane decomposition
Methane decomposition is the cracking of methane, where only COx-free hydrogen and solid carbon is produced. Due to the strong C-H bonds, the thermal cracking of methane requires temperatures above 1200 °C to obtain a reasonable yield, which can be improved with the use of nickel-based catalysts. This process has the potential to make the rapid transition to a fully decarbonised economy and beyond, which in the case of biomethane will support the removal of CO2 from the atmosphere. Amnis Pura has developed purification solutions to remove methane, carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide, as well as traces of acetylene normally present.
